Kids Jiu-Jitsu
Building champions on and off the mat. Safety, fun, and life skills for every child.
Safety is Our #1 Priority
All kids classes are supervised by experienced coaches at all times. Contact is controlled and progressive — students are only introduced to new physical challenges when they are ready. Students never advance to sparring before they are completely prepared, and all sparring is carefully monitored. We have trained hundreds of children over the years and take our responsibility to their safety extremely seriously.
What BJJ Does for Your Child
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu develops more than just physical skills. Here is what your child will gain through consistent training.
Coordination & Body Awareness
Learning Jiu-Jitsu requires a child to execute techniques that contain many small details. Learning to perform these techniques develops the child’s fine motor skills and teaches them a good understanding of base and balance. This develops strong neuromuscular connections and increases coordination and balance — skills that spill over to other sports and activities in their lives.
Discipline & Focus
It’s said that discipline and focus are like muscles that need to be trained. Learning Jiu-Jitsu is fun but the techniques are very detailed and complicated to learn and execute. Kids enjoy doing this and are forced to pay attention to instructors to be successful. Jiu-Jitsu will strengthen and improve kids’ discipline and focus, translating into better school work, better relationships, and an overall quality of life.
Confidence
BJJ is very different from traditional martial arts because you use what you learn every day at 100% with your training partners. Our Kids Classes have kids do live rolling in a safe environment at the end of every class. They will be engaged in a real-life combat situation trying to grapple their way into a dominant position or escape an uncomfortable one. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gives the child a REAL confidence and a REAL way to defend themselves.
Socialize
In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes children will meet many new friends and share common experiences like drilling techniques, playing games, and live rolling. It’s also a great way for kids to learn to communicate with other kids of all ages, as well as authority figures like the instructors and assistant instructors. You will get to see your child grow and learn with new friends they met in BJJ class and keep these friends for a lifetime.
Fitness & the Jiu-Jitsu Lifestyle
BJJ provides a fun and demanding cardiovascular workout for your child and they will LOVE doing it. Through BJJ they will lose weight, gain core strength, and have more energy and stamina for demanding activities. Because Jiu-Jitsu can be demanding physically, living a healthy life becomes a necessity — eating healthy foods, sleeping correctly, and stretching daily. This will help you get more out of yourself, your training, and help you use what you’ve learned on and off the mat.
Goal Setting & Completion
There are many opportunities in Jiu-Jitsu to test yourself and measure improvement: competition, receiving your next belt, executing a new technique while live rolling, or using an old one against a new opponent. Through the learning process in Jiu-Jitsu you learn to reach a little further and work a little harder each day. The goal every day is to improve by 1%.
Class Structure
We offer multiple class formats tailored to different ages, experience levels, and learning styles.
Kids BJJ (Gi)
Traditional uniform training. Great for building discipline and technical fundamentals. The Gi teaches patience, control, and grip-based technique that creates a complete grappler.
Kids No-Gi
Athletic wear training in shorts and rash guard. Focus on body mechanics in a high-energy, fun environment. No-Gi is fast-paced and great for kids who love dynamic movement.
Kids Advanced
For experienced young students who are ready to push their game to the next level. Competition-level technique, situational drilling, and structured conditioning designed for dedicated young athletes.
Kids Striking
Age-appropriate striking fundamentals focused entirely on self-defense. Ego-free and safe, this class teaches proper stance, movement, and basic strikes in a controlled, fun environment.
Age Groups
We tailor our teaching approach to the developmental stage of each age group. Every child gets an experience designed for them.
Little Grapplers
Our youngest students experience Jiu-Jitsu through play-based learning. Classes are energetic, silly, and structured around games that quietly develop coordination, body awareness, and basic positional understanding. The goal at this age is simple: have fun and fall in love with the mat. Attention spans are short and we work with that, not against it.
Junior Grapplers
This is where the real technical foundation is built. Students in this group are ready for structured drilling, positional sparring, and a deeper understanding of why techniques work. They learn to problem-solve on the mat and begin developing their own style. Many students in this group choose to begin competing in local kids tournaments, with full coach support.
Teen Competitors
Teenagers train with a level of seriousness that bridges the gap between our kids and adult programs. They develop sophisticated technique, train with controlled live rolling, and are given the option to prepare for competition. This age group builds exceptional physical fitness, mental resilience, and social confidence that directly impacts every aspect of their life — including academics and relationships.
Parent FAQ
We know parents have questions. Here are honest answers to the ones we hear most often.
What age can my child start?
We welcome children starting at 6 years old. At this age, the focus is entirely on fun, movement, and basic coordination — there is no pressure and no formal technique requirements. Children up through age 15 are well served by our kids programs, after which they can transition into our adult classes.
Is it safe? I don’t want my child to get hurt.
This is the question we hear most, and we take it seriously. Our coaches are experienced, attentive, and trained to keep all kids classes safe. We introduce physical contact progressively and age-appropriately. Younger students do not spar at all — they do positional drills with controlled objectives. Older students are introduced to sparring only when they have the technical foundation and emotional maturity to do it safely, and all sparring is supervised closely. Injuries do occur in any physical activity, but our program is designed to minimize risk at every stage.
What does my child need to wear?
For the first class, comfortable athletic wear is perfectly fine — shorts and a t-shirt will do. If your child decides to continue in Gi classes, they will need a kids BJJ Gi, which we can help you select. For No-Gi classes, athletic shorts and a rash guard are ideal. We can recommend affordable options that will last. Fingernails and toenails should be trimmed short, and hair should be tied back for longer-haired students.
Will my child have to fight other kids?
Not in the way you might be imagining. Live grappling (called “rolling”) is always optional, never forced, and always supervised. For younger students it is positional and cooperative in nature. Competing in tournaments is entirely optional and is only encouraged when a child genuinely wants to try it. Our goal is to develop confident, capable kids — not to push anyone into situations they are not ready for.
How does Jiu-Jitsu help with school performance?
Consistently and measurably. The discipline developed on the mat translates directly to the classroom. Students learn to follow directions, stay focused under pressure, manage frustration, and commit to a process even when progress feels slow. We regularly hear from parents that their child’s grades improved, their attitude at home changed for the better, and their teachers noticed a difference — all after starting Jiu-Jitsu. The mental habits of a martial artist are the mental habits of a successful student.
